This report describes the existing commercial relations between Italy (especially Southern Italy) and Southern Med Area (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt on the southern shore), Eastern Med Area (Israel, Lebanon, Syrian Arab Republic and Turkey on the eastern shore), and Adriatic Med Area (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro on the Adriatic shore).
The following reports describe the trade exchanges between Italy (and particularly Southern Italy) and the Mediterranean Area, a collective trade area including Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt, from the southern shore of Mediterranean Basin (Southern Med Area), Israel, Lebanon, Syrian Arab Republic and Turkey on the eastern shore (Eastern Med Area) and Albania, Bosnia and Croatia on the Adriatic shore (Adriatic Med Area).
This article was published in the “Policy Brief series, March 2012” of The German Marshall Fund of the United States, prepared in partnership with Paralleli Euromediterranean Institute (Turin). The policy brief examines the political situation in Tunisia, Libya and Egypt after the “Arab Spring” and presents a trade relations framework of these Countries.
This new paper is an update of the chapter Italian Economic Ranking in the Mediterranean Area contained in the MED Annual Report 2011. The analysis uses the latest available data for studying Italy’s trade relations in the Mediterranean compared to its main European competitors.
