Logistics competitiveness and economic development in the Mediterranean countries

Support our research project, register yourself and purchase the report

The aim of this paper is to analyze the competitiveness of the logistics of the countries lining the Mediterranean shores. Maritime traffic in this area has more than doubled from 2000 to 2013 by virtue of its centrality to the flow of goods travelling along the east-west routes through the Suez Canal and for those heading north-south using the Short Sea Shipping. The most important research institutions confirm the growth trend for the next few years. This paper aims at evaluating the logistics competitiveness of the countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea in the light of the drivers which are shaping the evolution of shipping, of naval gigantism and the large shipping companies’ alliances, as well as the policy of some countries to enrich their offer with Special Economic Zones.

This report is extracted from the SRM’s 4th Annual Report on “Economic relations between Italy and the Mediterranean area – November 2014″.
Both the English and Italian version may be purchased from this website in digital version, at a discounted price.
